Our proposal is as much about preserving the site's well-loved landscape as it is about delivering an aspirational 21st-century citywide park. As a once-a-generation investment, it integrates human wellbeing aspirations into an evolved park ecosystem. Ecologically everything on-site from water to woodland has a place concerning the whole and each other. Restoring and protecting this environment will result in new opportunities for increased biodiversity and extended environmental benefits. The cleaning of the incoming and outgoing water by reed beds will strengthen the water ecology while new trees and underplanting will enhance the biodiversity of the urban forest habitats. The reconnected Park will become a natural collector of movement instead and social energy. A hierarchy of play, sport, education…. activity nodes with a new visitor centre will make the park a magnet for people of all ages and backgrounds as truly inclusive public realm.
