Bridgegate district as a historical link across the river Irvine has since 1970 commercial developments became a psychological barrier to the broader pedestrian movement in Irvine as well as to economic regeneration. The reinvention of the original experience and perception of Bridgegate as a gateway to Old town and across the river is seen as an important new driver for economic, social and cultural change.
